One-Handed Catch, by Mary Jane Auch

A strong sense of purpose, leavened by generous doses of humor and post-World War II period detail, drives this story of a resilient middle-grader who demonstrates that having one hand is an opportunity rather than a handicap.
Grades 5 and up.

This is a great story that shows just how much someone can accomplish with a lot of determination. It shows kids that a disability is not the end of the world.

I thought this book was one of the best books out of all the books. Though I didn't think it was that humerous.I think it shows how someone with a disability can comeback and do whatever there dream was that they wanted to be when they grow up.

I loved the book because it was very descriptive on how Norm came over his problem. I think that he became very good at baseball and learned to do every thing by himself. I also liked it because it could become very funny in parts and I would never want to put it down

This book was not only good in explaining about how Norm had to work extra hard to do simple things like tying a shoe, it also was very well written in general. I liked how the author described in detail. My favorite!! READ IT AND VOTE FOR IT NOW!!!! Rated: ***********************************Infinity stars!!

This is a great book! Of the DCF, this was definitely the best in my opinion. The element that I thought made this book so good was the humor that balances out the tragic accident that turns the main character's world around. Also, Don't worry about being grossed out! THIS BOOK IS NOT GRUESOME! I highly recommend this book to anyone, even people who do not enjoy sports,(similar to me..!) You'll still love this charming story of extreme determination, and hard work! Enjoy! :-)

This book shows that you can accomplish something even through you have 1 hand. That is why I like this book. when I herd that his hand went through the meat grider I was kind of scarred. this really was a good book.

This book was my favorite so far because, It was one of those books that could be true, And you feel like you are actually in the moment and there witnessing it all to the loss of his hand to the time when he finally catches that ball at the game. It is a very powerful and amazing book.

I thought this book was pretty good. Even though I don't play baseball I still thought it was good. I thought it showed that if something happens to you you can still do stuff like baseball. It sounded kind of weird when they talked about his stump. When I was imagineing what it would be like to have your hand cut off it gave me shivers. It also shows that if you are hurt it won't always get you out of doing stuff. I also recomend this book to almost anyone.

I loved how this book showed that you can accomplish anything when you put your mind to it.

I loved this book. Our teacher read it to us and hopefully most of the people did too.The book tells you that even with just one arm you can do something that everyone can do. That's one reason I liked it, another is you would think it is gruesome, but it is not. I also like sports. One sport I like is baseball. So if you like baseball I would recommend it to you.

At first Norm didn't think he could tie his own shoe bit figured out that he can do much more than tie a shoelace. This book not only showed that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to, but that your dreams could come true if you belive you can do it.
