Gossamer, by Lois Lowry

While learning to bestow dreams, a young dream giver tries to save an eight-year-old boy from the effects of both his abusive past and the nightmares inflicted on him by the frightening Sinisteeds.

It's hard when you feel like a square peg that is supposed to fit into a round hole. That's what Gossamer must feel like. She talks too much, thinks too much, won't stay still - all the things that upset the older ones who have been bestowing dreams for so long.
Grades 5 and up.

I wish all abused children had dream givers to help them escape from the memories of their past. Gossamer is a bit of a misfit with a heart of gold. This is one of Lowry's best books yet.

I think Gossamer is a great book and very interesting. I have always thought of fairies as small little creatures that go around using their wands for magic. But now I see them in a different way.

I think "Gossamer" was a great book.
I love the way it shows the boy with a hard shell on the outside, but a big heart on the inside; the compassion for the dog.
I also comment on the way Lois Lowry intertwines Gossamer's future, and the boy's past.
In all, it's a great adventure to open your heart. Anyone can read this book.
